need some hand holding with IMPORT

OK, I'm sure this is VERY basic but I can't find a clear answer. I'm also pretty sure that I'm just tripping over terminology, but...
I'm in the process of moving from an Amahi server to FreeNAS. To do this I've moved all of my data onto a set of NTFS drives so that I would have seven free 2tb drive to use for my new raidz2 volume. Now that I've created the volume and set up CIFS I want to move my data back onto the server. I think I can do this with the import function. But, I've not two issues/questions:
1) Does the "import" function just give the drive a volume name & mount it so I can then move the files, or does it actually move the data?
2) Does FreeNAS do anything with the file system of the data?

Until I finish testing I really want to keep all the data on these NTFS disks. So, I don't want to use this function if FreeNAS is going to change the file system as part of this "import".

The Import Function in 8.0.4 allows you to import a volume that is comprised of 1 to 'n' drives. So if you have a RaidZ of 3 drives and you export the volume then you can move the three drives to another system and import the pool.

Unfortunately the only way I know how to move the data is just a simple copy files from the source to the pool. As of yet there is no import from NTFS to ZFS.

YIKES!!! That's means I've got a lot of copying across my network ahead of me. I've got almost 10tb of data. YIKES!!!
