AFP unstable in 8.04? CIFS works fine, AFP keeps crashing system

    IMG_0426.JPGIMG_0421.jpg

Just built up a new machine and it will not stay up and running when accessed from the Mac for more than 12 minutes or so.
Tried various things..memtest, changing to UFS rather than ZFS volumes..all to no good, it jsut keeps crashing as per the screen shots attached.

Since I now use only mac computes and no Window boxes left, I decided to use AFP rather than CIFS.

As a trial I stopped the AFP service and shared instead with CIFS

It has now been running for 33 minutes without a crash or any error messages up on the console screen and I have copied over 4Gb of data to it via a backup app ( Chronosync)

I am quite happy using CIFS, as it seems far quicker at copying over the network than AFP, but thought I should at least make note of this in case someones wants to investigate this further, or wants me to try stuff to find the cause.

OK, so not 100 % conclusive yet, will see how long it continues to run, and more volumes and see what happens,

    Yes
    It is AFP.

something is broken..no idea if it is due to something in my system that it does not like, but I have been out during the day and it worked fine all day ..5 or more maybe 6 hours with over 60gigs of data copied to it with Chronosync, from the mac, via a CIFS share.

Go in to services and enable AFP and and a single shared volume,a nd crash, down it goes, within seconds.

Now i am happy with using CIFS/SMB but I am more than happy to post logs or do what ever you guys want if I can be of any help to the dev team.

Probalby have to hold my hand and lead me through wht you want me to do etc, but willing to do stuff, if it will help

    Neil,

You'll get much better results if you open a support ticket at support.freenas.org

The developers don't consistently monitor this section and the ticket system lets them track bugs etc. much better. It's also a good way to look and see what other bugs have been reported and if your bug has already been submitted.

, yes, I followed that link earlier, but it meant another registration etc etce, wait for the confirmation e-mail etc ...and ...well ..happy to help if I can do it from here, but I can use CIFS just as well, seems far more reliable even on my old ver 0.7 box

I do not need the help to get it working, will just use CIFS, if any of the devs see this I'll help here if asked ,but i have too much on my plate with other jobs as it is without actually going out looking for it.

Guess I'll just leave it,,,am sure it will crop up with someone else sooner or later

\not meaning to be negative..but had a really bad day
..off to bed before I put an axe through the Apple TV.
